SO! Destined Solitaire - our fifth studio album... Instead of the usual "Rikard Recalls" thing, since this album is still so new I think we're gonna put some frequently asked quesions that we get from listeners and magazines. These particular questions were asked by Maurizio Mazzarella for the italian magazine Informazione Metal:
How would you describe your new album?
It’s prog, it’s rock, there’s some jazz, funk, soul, metal, slick eastcoast jazzrock, hiphop, folk some general pop thrown in there. A whole variety of styles and sounds actually!
How long did you take to record it?
All in all a couple of weeks. The basic tracks were recorded live in five days and then the overdubs and vocals took about a week altogether, I think. It was mixed in my flat.
Which is the origin of a song of yours? How do you create a song?
I usually write most of the stuff, melodies and harmonies and I usually have an idea of how I want it to sound. Then I present it to the other guys and they learn it, we change stuff around and they style it in the way they want to play it and then we arrange it some more to get it the way we want to. And that’s usually it!
Which are the topics of your new album?
It’s a coming of age thing, it’s about feeling alienated, sad and alone, being happy, it’s about love, sex, getting drunk, getting hurt (psychically and mentally), it’s about the loss of loved ones and about the gaining of new friends and most importantly new experiences. You can sometimes feel like you’re destined to be alone (this doesn’t necessarily mean being unhappy though, alone can be good as well) but like one of the lyrics say: “beyond the horizon there’s a big, big world and I think I want to see it after all”. Basically these lyrics are kind of therapeutic for me, the lyricist… cheaper than a shrink you know, haha!
That's it!
